The department comprises of two separate art rooms which are set in an attractive environment for work and though certain areas are designated for specific activities, students can extend their studies into various skills and crafts. All students are encouraged to use a wide variety of resources which include visits to museums and galleries.

Key Stage 3
The students follow a general course to enable them to communicate through colour, pattern, texture, shape and space. Through the development of drawing and painting skills we aim to lead the students into the exciting areas of textiles, three dimensional work, printing and graphics. Incorporated into this are various aspects of Western and European art as well as designs and ideas of other ethnic groups and cultures.

All students have a sketch window for homework and individual project related research.

Key Stage 4 - GCSE Course
All students follow the Unendorsed Art syllabus, which is a broadly based course where the students continue to develop their individual work through the areas of painting, textiles, printing, sculpture, three dimensional design, fashion and graphics, which are all supported by strong exploration drawings and design work.

Students are also involved in workshops held in the department, which are taken by various artists and craftspeople and which enable the students to work alongside and to discuss ideas with practising artists.

Key Stage 5 - Advanced Level
The AS and A2 Advanced Level courses build on the skills and personal artistic developments that have been made throughout GCSE, but to a greater depth and understanding.

Our students are highly successful on this course and go on to various degree or higher education courses, as well as directly onto Art degree courses or onto one year Foundation Courses.
